We exist to be a Jesus-centered community in Pepperell, speaking gospel words and doing gospel works to display the worth of God to the world.
We exist to be a Jesus-centered community in Pepperell.
Before we exist to do something, we exist to be something: a Jesus-centered community in Pepperell. We’re in this together – no Lone Rangers! God loves Christian community and we do, too. The distinctive mark of our community is that it is Jesus-centered. Jesus is the one who unites us and excites us. Being a Christian means living in Jesus-centered relationships with other Christians and finding healing, strength, purpose and growth in these relationships. Our Jesus-centered community is located in Pepperell and exists for Pepperell, the surrounding communities, and the world.
Speaking gospel words and doing gospel works.
Because we exist for Pepperell, the surrounding communities, and the world, we must aim to give them the most precious thing we have: the gospel. We give the gospel by speaking gospel words and doing gospel works. Speaking ‘gospel words’ means we must know and tell the gospel. A ‘gospel work’ is anything we do from the gospel and for the gospel. In other words, it includes going to work, cutting the grass, raising kids, cleaning the house, and having someone over for dinner, if we are doing these activities as forgiven sinners and children of God and for the purpose of advancing the gospel.
To display the worth of God to the world.
We don’t exist to display the worth of ourselves, our programs, our building, or our town. We exist to display the worth of God. God’s worth blows our minds – we can’t measure it, we can’t contain it, we can’t comprehend it. Displaying something means making it visible and available for others to see. It is an active and intentional and outward-focused activity. Displaying the worth of God means showing others who haven’t seen and experienced it just how valuable God is. This happens as we speak gospel words, do gospel works, and embody the gospel word in Jesus-centered community. We want to display God’s worth to the whole world. That begins in Pepperell, spreads to surrounding local communities, and extends to all peoples and nations. We aim to be a local church with a global reach.
