Haiti update from Mary Ann Schunemann
Hi there,
May occasionally be able to connect with you via internet. Long line for use of
computer, and connection goes in and out.
Arrived fine, no sleep, but amazingly able to go right on to the floors and
treat patients without a problem. Slept last night under a mosquito net, but I
had plenty of mosquito friends in there with me. :) Roosters crowing everywhere,
but became a part of my dreams I guess.
Hospital thrilled to have 2 physical therapists for the week, we will be very
busy. Rounds at 6 AM, and likely treat for 12 hours after that… Doctors,
nurses from all over, and happy and enthusiastic. Patients also very happy to
have care. Amazed by both the supplies we do have, and the supplies we don’t.
Hospital building surrounded by tents of patients getting care also. Haven’t
been to the tents yet, apparently there is a PT that is assigned to those and
has trained 2 Haitians to help her.
Glad to have brought alot of power bars. Hospital can provide only one meal a
day as the volunteer and patient volume is so high. We bought bread and peanut
butter.
Need to go to 7:30 AM church/admin meeting…
NOTE: The Park Street Haiti team has set up a blog. There is a video of Mary Ann posted yesterday. You can follow the blob and see the video here.
