Some helpful thoughts on our visioning process
Joe Liscouski sent me the following helpful thoughts concerning the visioning process we have embarked upon as a church:
‘In preparation for defining a vision statement, it might be worth getting answers to a couple of questions:
1) why was PCF formed?
2) why do people attend?
There are a bunch of churches in the area, so why PCF? What are people looking for that isn’t available elsewhere? What is different about PCF? Knowing who and what we are is part of the basis for understanding what we want to be. We have to be careful that, in moving forward we don’t leave behind something fundamental to PCF’s character.’
I see Joe’s two questions as being helpful ways of unpacking the question we’re asking everyone: ‘Who are we as a church?’ That question involves our history, the good things about us, and also the things we don’t like as a much and would like to leave behind. That relates to the second question we’re asking everyone: ‘Who do we want to be as a church?’
