How present-tense is your relationship with God this Easter?

How present-tense is your relationship with God this Easter? By that I mean, is your experience of God a present, ongoing reality? Or is it based upon a few events way back when in your past?

Here’s a gem (one of many) from a novel I love: Frederick Buechner’s Godric. Buechner is talking about human friendship, but this applies to our relationship with God:

‘When friends speak overmuch of times gone by, often it’s because they sense their present time is turning them from friends to strangers.’

Sadly, I know this to be true — because I’ve experienced it with friends as we’ve grown apart.

Ask yourself: ‘In my relationship with God, do I speak only of ‘times gone by’? Or is my relationship with God lived in the present tense?

Stephen,

My family and I appreciated these words, and others, that you provided Good Friday regarding
“sweet sobriety”. Good words to consider as we meditated on our Lord’s suffering.
