How to fulfill our church mission and have fun at the same time
For a good way to fulfill our church mission and have fun at the same time, keep reading…
According to the mission statement we adopted a year ago and are still growing into, PCF exists ‘to be a Jesus-centered community in Pepperell, speaking gospel words and doing gospel works to display the worth of God to the world.’
When we formulated our mission, we thought carefully about saying that we exist to be a Jesus-centered community in Pepperell. About half our congregation comes from surrounding towns. We say ‘in Pepperell’ for the same reason that our church is called Pepperell Christian Fellowship. God, in his good and wise providence, has placed this body of believers here at 17 Main Street, right in the midst of downtown Pepperell. We meet here on Sundays, our church offices are here, we serve at the local senior center, God has given us a unique presence in this local community. For that reason, it was important to Emma and me when we moved to the area a couple years ago that we found a place to live in Pepperell. We wanted to be part of this local community and to affirm the local context of our church in Pepperell.
PCF exists in Pepperell and we exist for Pepperell, the surrounding communities, and the world. We exist as a community within a community, and we exist to meet the needs not just of ourselves, but of our local neighborhoods and communities. We exist to overflow to Pepperell and the surrounding communities. Our desire is to bring the gospel into the neighborhoods of Pepperell and Townsend and Groton and Hollis and Ayer and Groton and Milford and Shirley and Ashby and Nashua and…(you fill in the name of the local town you live in).
So, here’s how to fulfill our church mission and have fun this coming Saturday. There’s a big town-wide event planned for Saturday, September 4 – the dedication of the newly re-done Covered Bridge and Prudence Wright monument. There will be a chorus, a state representative on hand, a regiment of Revolutionary War re-enactors, and many town-wide activities. As PEPPERELL Christian Fellowship, we’re part of this community, so let’s bring our families this Saturday, be part of the community, meet new folks, and ‘speak gospel words and do gospel works’ as God gives us opportunity. I’ve been asked to pray at the dedication ceremony and I see this as a great opportunity to represent Christ and PCF in our community.
