How to pray from the gospel
At PCF, we aim to live from the gospel and for the gospel. Living from the gospel means living in light of what God has already done to save and renew us and what he will do to complete our salvation at the last day. It means living as a forgiven sinner and a beloved child of God.
We need to live from the gospel every day. We are always inclined to forget the gospel and live as thought it isn’t true and doesn’t apply to us. So we must consciously, deliberately hold the gospel up before us. One of the best ways to live from the gospel is to pray from the gospel.
Here’s a prayer from Soren Kierkegaard that exemplifies what it means to pray from the gospel. I encourage you to pray this prayer regularly.
‘Father in heaven! Hold not our sins up against us but hold us up against our sins, so that the thought of thee, when it wakens, should not remind us of what we have committed but of what thou didst forgive, not of how we went astray but of how thou didst save us!’
