Merry Christmas, PCF!
Merry Christmas, PCF!
I’m thankful to God for our Christmas service on Sunday – thankful for the hard work of many people and for the beauty and excellence of the service. Most of all, I’m thankful God permitted us to have the service. We got only a few inches of snow in Pepperell – and towns not far from us got 6-8 inches or more. Our lack of snow allowed the service to go on and people to come out – we had about 200 folks there on Sunday, many of whom do not regularly attend PCF.
The day before Sunday, with a massive storm bearing down on us, I reminded myself that God is in control of snow. The Bible says this in a number of passages. His ‘snow control’ is a sign of his sovereignty. That means he had good purposes for PCF in withholding snow and good purposes for many other churches in giving so much snow they had to cancel their services.
Here are the three passages I read and prayed last Saturday as the storm approached.
Job 37.5-13 “God thunders with His voice wondrously, doing great things which we cannot comprehend. For to the snow He says, ‘Fall on the earth,’ and to the downpour and the rain, ‘Be strong.’ He seals the hand of every man, that all men may know His work. Then the beast goes into its lair and remains in its den. Out of the south comes the storm, and out of the north the cold. From the breath of God ice is made, and the expanse of the waters is frozen. Also with moisture He loads the thick cloud; He disperses the cloud of His lightning. It changes direction, turning around by His guidance, that it may do whatever He commands it on the face of the inhabited earth. Whether for correction, or for His world, or for lovingkindness, He causes it to happen.
Psalm 147.16-17 ‘He gives snow like wool; He scatters the frost like ashes. He casts forth His ice as fragments; Who can stand before His cold?’
Psalm 148.7-8 ‘Praise the LORD from the earth, Sea monsters and all deeps; Fire and hail, snow and clouds; Stormy wind, fulfilling His word…’
He commands the snow and it obeys!
