Praise God, Annie's home
Annie is home! Emma and Annie came home from Southern New Hampshire Hospital this morning. It appears that Annie had a virus and that’s what caused the high fever. She no longer has the fever and is fine except for the remaining effects of the antibiotics (not pleasant). Emma and I are praising God for the following things (actually, Emma is napping right now, having gotten about 6 hours of sleep over the last 3 nights, so I’m the one currently doing the praising):
— The fact that Annie did not have a life-endangering illness such as meningitis and that we’re all together again.
— The remarkable kindness and support and love of our church family, which has surrounded us with prayer and phone calls and practical acts of caring and help.
— The superb medical care available generally in the U.S. and at Southern New Hampshire Hospital in particular. Driving up to the hospital yesterday, I heard a BBC report on current conditions in flooded portions of Pakistan. Many people, including children, are dying from disease. We often forget how good we have it here. If Annie was in Pakistan right now, I think her case would have been, of necessity, quite a low priority. Instead, because she lives in Pepperell, MA she received immediate and excellent care.
— God’s goodness in comforting and strengthening us through his Word in a moment of discouragement and fear a couple days ago (see my previous blog).
— The fact that God was sovereign over every single thing that has happened to our family over the last few days. We’re under no illusion that we have endured any great suffering here. But there was fear, worry, some inconvenience, and some cost. And we can both honestly and gladly say that we believe God was sovereign and gracious in every aspect of this (minor) suffering and intended all of it for our good and Annie’s good and his own glory. I pray that we would be able to testify to God’s sovereign grace even if the results of Annie’s fever had been much worse than they actually were.
