Read God's Word!

The Bible is unlike any other book in the world. Its words are unlike any other words in this world. Why? Because its words are spoken by the eternal God. Here’s how David Wells says it in his recent blog ‘The Bible is not self-help’: ‘[God’s] Word is not one of many. It is the only Word that has been there from all eternity because it comes from the eternal God.’
Because of this, reading the Bible regularly and humbly and prayerfully and expectantly will change your life. It will. That’s why we’re now in the second year of our church-wide two-year Bible-reading plan. I know of folks who have recently joined in. I’d love you to join us if you’re not reading the Bible regularly. Download the plan from our home page.
Don’t take my word that reading God’s Word will change your life. Listen to what these PCF folks said when I asked them recently: What fruit have you seen in your life from reading the Bible this year?
- ‘I’ve grown much closer to the Lord, started to trust him more, and seen how he’s provided for me and others…’
- ‘long as I have been saved I have heard pastors…teach us over the pulpit passages in the Word, but reading thru the Word in 2 yrs has tied what I have heard all together.’
- ‘It has helped to enlarge my view of God and His might.’
- ‘What I see in my life through my readings is that I’ve fallen in love with the Lord. He is my life. I haven’t seen this deep feeling since I first became a Christian…’
- ‘God is calling me up higher and he is using my daily reading to transform my thinking, heart and choices.’
- ‘Spiritual strength. More devotion to God & His truth. Liberation from lies…It has been much needed and long over-due in my life to feed on God’s word daily. It has been good to know it is a group effort’
- ‘Being able to discuss with my husband (and others) things we are both already reading…I have enjoyed seeing the Bible become a page-turning story again.’
- ‘I think the best thing that has happened for me this year is a hunger (stronger than before) for the Word. The more that I read the more I want to read… The fruit I have seen in my life this year has been more peace…God is in charge and that things work out to no surprise to Him and that he has my best interest at heart. Seeing more of the overall picture reading through the Bible like this (instead of reading a book of the Bible in random order) has helped [me] see and believe this more so.’
- ‘There have been so many occasions…where the passage I am reading is the ONE I needed for that day. I am challenged, convicted and encouraged to practically apply something in that day’s passage to my personal situations in an attempt to pursue higher levels of holiness in my life.’
- ‘Growth and fulfillment in my prayer life as I use whatever passage I am reading that day to PRAY portions of it into my own life or into specific individuals that God puts on my heart.’
- ‘We have the Bible reading plan in common with others at PCF and can therefore discuss questions and marvel [at] God together…We find ourselves marveling at God together with others primarily at Life Group. It provides a common context and we learn from others point of view.’
