Time to add to your library

It’s time to add to your library. Last week in our adult Sunday class on the book of Ezekiel, I recommended three excellent resources. These are great whether or not you’re in our Ezekiel class.

New Bible Commentary
First, you should pick up a copy of the New Bible Commentary, edited by G.J. Wenham, J.A. Motyer, D.A. Carson, and R.T. France. It is published by Inter-Varsity Press. My copy was published in 2001. I have used quite a few one-volume commentaries and this is one of the best. It contains short commentaries written by some of the top evangelical scholars on all 66 books of the Bible. Each of the commentaries is short and accessible, with an overview of the book and brief comments on the text. This is a great resource! If you’re reading the Bible and have a question, you can pull this volume off the shelf and look for answers on any book of the Bible.

Holman Bible Atlas
Second, it is good for every Christian to own a Bible atlas so that you are better able to picture the places mentioned in the Bible. There are many good Bible atlases. I’ve been pleased with the one I own. It is called the Holman Bible Atlas, and was published by Broadman & Holman Publishers in 1998. There are many full-color maps, together with historical background. It’s been very helpful to me for many years.

Ezekiel
Third, I highly recommend the study guide on Ezekiel called Ezekiel: The God of Glory, by Tim Chester. It was published by The Good Book Company in 2005. This is the study guide I’m using in order to teach the class. I also want to use this opportunity to encourage you to check out the excellent website for The Good Book Company. Their website is www.thegoodbook.com, and there are many, many excellent Bible study resources there.
